Retromedia Publishing prepares for the official launch of the book World Harness Racing
“We were humbled by the response of 17 countries whose harness racing history and legends are profiled in the book, and the many others who provided support by providing contacts and/or photos. It was a year-long process to prepare and complete the book and we are indebted to our collaborators and sponsors.”
Along with taking a detailed look at the history of the 17 countries, the book explores some of the most successful drivers from each respective country.
With it completed, McCabe knows that all lovers of harness racing, no matter where they are from, will enjoy the book.
“This is a book for harness racing insiders and neophytes alike. Readers will find snapshots of the origins and highlights of harness racing and great horses from 17 different countries. The selection of legends from each country should generate some friendly debate regarding the merits of those chosen and those passed over.”
The official book launch will take place at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino (lower concourse) in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.), Canada at 3:30 p.m. (Atlantic Time) on Wednesday, August 16, 2017.
The launch will coincide with the World Trotting Conference taking place in P.E.I. that week, as well as the fifth leg of the World Driving Championship, which is happening two days later in Charlottetown.
This one-of-a-kind book can be purchased now online at for just $29.95.

Memory Isle poems by Ferne Peake
(1916 - 1968)
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island: Retromedia Publishing is pleased to announce the book launch of Memory Isle poems by Ferne Peake. The event will take place at The Carriage House of Beaconsfield Historic House from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2016.
Memory Isle is a treasure trove of Island poems written by a mother, a teacher and a poet. The poems are as magical as they are poignant. Most of these poems are being published posthumously and for the first time.
Ferne (Murdock) Peake, born in the village of Murray Harbour, left behind a large volume of unpublished poetry when she died at the age of 51. It is from this collection that her daughter, Pamela (Peake) Logan, has selected and arranged the poetry for Memory Isle.
A small number of her poems first appeared in the 1967 centennial book, Island Prose and Poetry: An anthology, edited by Allan Graham. Her poem “Cradle Song,” an eloquent celebration of Canada, appeared in the 1967 Nova Scotia Book of Verse.
The emcee for the event will be Hon. Marion Reid, recipient of the Order of Prince Edward Island, the first female speaker of the P.E.I. Legislative Assembly, the first female lieutenant-governor of the Island, an author, and a former teacher and principal.
A tribute and reading will be given by Allan Graham. Personal reflections and readings will be given by Pamela Logan.
The media and public are invited to attend.
